SUNGAI AIR KUNING DAM MYSTERY TUNNEL
Historically, the tunnel was constructed by the British during its occupation of Malaya circa 1930 to channel water sources from Bukit Cherakah to Klang Utara and for the use of the nearby people. Transportation and communication problems hindered the water source dam maintenance, and the dam was abandoned in 1966.
The 323 metre tunnel, constructed without the use of any modern technology, linked the Sungai Air Kuning Dam and Camar Rimba across a 180 metre high hill.
The tunnel was explored for the first time on 27 January 1990 by 9 volunteers – consisting of the Malaysian Agricultural Park staff and firemen to confirm on the sturdiness of the structure. However, a second exploration on 11 September 2004 was to promote and open the tunnel as a tourist attraction.
Due to these explorations, the mystery tunnel is found to possess its own mysterious characteristics that are difficult to fathom. However, it has become an attraction that can be visited and explored by all.
